Google AdWords Keyword Tool

I used to be a big fan of Yahoo's Overture keyword Selector when searching for the popularity of keywords, but lately have been using Googles AdWords Keyword Tool more often.

Use the Google AdWords Keyword Tool to find the best keywords and
phrases for your website.

For example, if your site was selling a Texas Two Step video, you
could use the Google tool at the link below, and enter the phrase,
"Texas Two Step."

Take the time to do this exercise and you will find out two
interesting things:

#1. That the following phrases would be great phrases to optimize. Maybe we would have thought of some of these phrases, but
probably not all of them.

Below are the phrases that the tool said were popular and were
searched for a lot:

texas two step dance
how to texas two step
texas two step video
texas two step instructions
texas two step videos

#2. That if we were buying traffic from Google we could save a lot of money by putting the
word, "lottery" in our list of negative words.

This would save money because we found out that a lot of people
are searching for the phrase, "Texas Two Step Lottery."

The people searching for this phrase would not be potential
customers for the Texas Two Step video.

(That must be a popular lottery in Texas, but we wouldn't have
known that it was a popular phrase if we hadn't used the above
tool.)

Use the Google tool on your "keyword phrases" and see what you can
find out to help "pull" new sales leads and business opportunities to you when maximizing SEO on your blog or website.

I think Google's keyword tool is an excellent resource. Personally, I've noticed a slight decline in the quality of the classic Overture tool, not to mention it is usually considerably slower - which can really be a problem at times.

I've started using nichebot primarily because it includes several tools in one, and many of these tools give somewhat contradictory results. But I do like the Google tool for lateral searches. I think it gives even better results than the lateral search tool that comes with the paid version of Wordtracker.
