Google Personalized Searches

Last month, Google announced PERSONALIZED SEARCHES. Google's goal has always been to give you exactly the information you want right when you want it. With the growth of the Internet and all the new information coming online every day, this might sound hard.

They say, "We're constantly trying to improve the quality of your search results. One of the ways we're tackling this is by personalizing your search experience. After all, you're the only one who actually knows what you're really looking for."

Now, when you're signed in to your Google account and start a search, the search will be personalized TO YOU and YOUR surfing habits. Let’s say 3 people search the word BEATLES. One person will get results about the car, one will get results about the band, and someone else gets results about the insect. – For the consumer, great! For the people building websites and blogs and trying to get (and stay on) on Google’s page 1, not so great.

One thing you can do as a blogger, is make it easier for people to add your content to Google (or Yahoo!) Bookmarks. Consider placing text links like this: Add a Google Bookmark or Add to Y! on the pages of your site that are most likely to be bookmarked. If your site offers RSS feeds, use buttons or chicklets so people can track your site that way.

If you don't want to see personalized results while you are searching, make sure you are not signed into your Google Account, and search as you normally would.

As a consumer, I want to see the organic search.
I may be in the minority, I don’t know – any comments?
