Lately, we have recieved several emails about Podcasting and Video Podcasting.
We will try to clarify the differences and tell you the advantages.
Technically, a podcast is a media file that is distributed by subscription (paid or unpaid) over the Internet using syndication feeds, for playback on mobile devices and personal computers. Like 'radio', it can mean both the content and the method of syndication.Though podcasters' web sites may also offer direct download of their content, a podcast is distinguished from other digital audio formats by its ability to be downloaded automatically, using software capable of reading feed formats such as RSS. Podcasting's initial appeal was to allow individuals to distribute their own "radio shows," but the system quickly became used in a wide variety of other ways, including distribution of school lessons, official and unofficial audio tours of museums, conference meeting alerts and updates, and by police departments to distribute public safety messages.

Video Podcasting (sometimes shortened to vidcast or vodcast) is a term used for the online delivery of video on demand video clip content via RSS. The term is an evolution specialized for video, coming from the generally audio-based podcast. - The beauty of the Video Podcast is it can quickly be uploaded to sites like YOUTUBE and GOOGLE VIDEO and an advertiser has the potential to reach out to potential viewers / consumers. PLUS, you can upload the clip to your own blog and / or website and allow all of your subscribers to receive it. It's a great way to publicize something quickly. And keep in mind, for bloggers, YOUTUBE and GOOGLE VIDEO has lots of video clips you can use on your blog, which may be of interest to your readers.
